Marcell Dargay – composer, pianist was born in 1980, Hungary. He began his musical studies at the age of 10 as a pianist. From 1994 to 1999 he studied composition and piano at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest with István Fekete Győr, Sarolta Faddi and Zoltán Benkő. In 1999 he became a student of the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, his professors were László Vidovszky, Zoltán Jeney, Zsolt Serei and András Wilheim. In 2003 he studied composition with Tristan Murail, Frederic Rzewski and Christian Wolff in Ostrava, Czech.He graduated in 2004. He was a piano accompanist of Hungarian National Opera from 2003 to 2005, since 2004 teaches theory of music in the Béla Bartók Conservatory.
Dargay’s works were performed in Budapest and other towns of Hungary, München, Freiburg, Paris, Ostrava and New York. He’s commissioned by the MAGYART-France, Budapest Autumn Festival, Budapest Spring Festival, International Béla Bartók Festival, Juilliard School – New York etc., and writes music for theatre.
He made some radio and TV recordings as a pianist about hungarian and international contemporary music.
